Carmen saved me....

Now, you may or may not know this about me - I'm hopeless at inky, time consuming stuff. I don't have a craft sheet (I use a piece of cling film spread over my glass mat!) and I gave away my Melt Pot, about a year after I realised I'd used it twice and hated it!

So then Jennie sends me a bunch of stuff that can be altered and I have a teeny panic attack at the enormity of the expectation. I even bought another Distress Inkpad to help. It didn't. But then Carmen left a comment. And it was all OK and so I took five minutes to play a bit.

This is as close as it gets for me - four (FOUR!) ink pads and some cut and dry foam and a couple of stamped images later, and I quite like it. It's bright and quite cheery. But that's the point isn't it - I like it. Again, thanks to Jenny for the erm, push, and definite thanks to Carmen who says it doesn't have to be grungy to be altered. I have a workshop to propose to shopkeeper gal, born out of Carmen's wisdom. We're going to call it 'Grungy, but Bright'. I think it will interest the people who know me well enough to know that it's kinda my colours but out of my 'zone'. I don't think we can go as far as Jul!a Holtz as a nickname, but hey - I like the brighter colours, and Carmen says it's OK. Good enough.

I want to know how you made the background. Were those gears a rubber stamp? What is cut and dry foam and what is it used for? Yep, I may be an altered artist, but apparently I don't have the tools and I definitely don't have the Holtz gene. I much prefer the Dunnit influence.

I really, really LOVE that sentiment, especially the part that involves COFFEE. Love this tag.

Ooh fab Julia, love the colours and love the sentiment ;-) You don't NEED a non-stick mat the glass cutting board without the clingfilm is good, so long as it's got a smooth and not a bumpy surface - you just need something the cut'n'dry foam will glide over :-)

And of course there are the small flat square silicon (flat, cos some come with bumps) "heat" mats from good old Poundland instead of a craft mat - dead handy for those smaller distress ink jobies.

LURVE the tag and the cogs - very "in" at the moment. Go on, go on, you know you are smug with the results ..... here's to the next 4 ink pads, Mrs Dunnit-Holtz (hyphenated, of course .....)

This is great..I love to distress and get inky..but I'm a girly girl too so don't really go for the dark/brown grungy look either. I've a bright/pretty tag coming up on my WOYWW in the morning (if my scehduling works)..I like to think of it as girly grunge!!..and great idea for a workshop..x

Love the background ...and the cups ...and the sentiment.
Altered art has me confused and I am sure that there have been debates as to the definition ...altered means changed I thought so whether it is a naked tag or box in to a pretty piece of art work ...or a bean can into a practical yet beautiful pen pot, no one states how they should look as far as I know ...grungy,distressed, vintage, pastel or bright etc etc... its the creaters choice I feel ...or am I totally mistaken xx

Grungy and bright! yea! love bright, and who said it has to be grungy? I am sure that the colour influence makes us make it grungy.. check out the frame I did, started off white and black ended up very dark reds and balck!! lol
Love what you have done.... more please
Hugs x

Oh Julia, I'm really worried about you now! I'm pleased you like it, I like it too ..... but I remember being here myself and look at me now - distress inked up to my eyeballs and displaying fingers of various shades...I think you too are going the inky way! There's a good thing about this type of crafting....messy desks are in order (lol)ikki x

Good Lord Julia I didn't even know there were rules - I have had my work described as grungy and do not really know what is meant by the term!!! to me 'altered' means take something and make it something else- usually I'd expect to take something on its last legs and make it beautiful again... I love your tag, especially the legend, please don't feel you can't alter - you clearly can.....you have your own style - better than adopting someone elses in my book....
