What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 269

Well, I've got plenty on my desk, thanks for wondering.  A short (I promise) tour is in order.

First I must tell you that I have tidied.  Yep.   I decided to excavate a couple of layers and make a start on another Christmas card.  Yeah well, that didn't work out, but it was a super excuse to listen to some of Jane Austen's Persuasion whilst I erm, sorted buttons. So you see the buttons, the drink of ribena, the passport photos of Mr Dunnit (they look like a police mug shot). The handles of the Cropadile, put away in the place that is exactly geographically opposite where it should be put away.  The pile of double sided tape rolls..because the ATG gun is still empty.  I need to use up the tapes first I think.  There are new dies.  Yum.  Except they can't really be that exciting because they've been there, albeit buried, for a fortnight.  Still, no doubt in another fortnight they'll at least have been put away, if not used.  At the back is the corner of a large envelope.  it's an order from Snapfish containing photos from my birthday.  The idea is that when the mojo deserts me (now), I will go through my papers and etc and pick stuff for making LOs..ready for Crops.  Hmm. Turns out that this good intention makes me think I don't have the right papers. Amongst the many hundreds.  How ridiculous.  Best thing about the desk - the sun continues to shine; photo taken late Tuesday afternoon.
So now, using the instructions at the top of the page if you need them, please join in and show us what you're doing at your workdesk, wherever!  Post on your blog, link it here and we'll visit as son as we can.  Cue surge in the national grid as we all go and put the kettle on!

  2. Ah, the road to Christmas card making is strewn with such diversions as button sorting! I'm doing the same avoiding writing the band newsletter :-)

  5. There is nothing like some button sorting....... Love buttons!!!! I could be there hours ( truth in days really) if I were to really sort mine ... Couldn't use them all if I live to 100! But that's not the point is it?

  6. Morning Julia, a fast visit, and wow am I early in the list! My wonderful eldest son is 40 today, so have to visit him this afternoon, so my visits will probably be tomorrow. Buttons everywhere- I can remember spending hours sorting my Moms button tin when I was a kid, lol. Have a fab week, Hugs, Shaz xxxx

  7. Good morning, Julia. Well, I'm sure the fact that I currently appear to be in pole position won't last - but it's nice whilst it does! Gorgeous selection of buttons there. Great to see that I'm not the only one who puts things on the desk - then... erm... buries them! John bought me some lovely things for our anniversary which I haven't photographed yet.... basically 'cos they are now buried, along with allsorts which Daughter#2 brought last week. Oh well, I'll get there.
I won't comment on yesterday's post 'cos I already have my tickets for the Manchester show. But, over the years I have been to both venues - and they are both great. Met Shoshi at the Exeter show the other January. The venues are not as big as the NEC - but that, for us, is a bonus - easier for John. Went to the Manchester venue with Mrs D the other month - and spent up with great enthusiasm!
Have a great week. God bless.

  8. Button, button - we now know who is hoarding all of the buttons!

I have some pretty buttons sitting by my ink pads that I really must play with one of these days!

Enjoyed today's peek. Happy WOYWW to you Julia! :-)

  11. Ah, yes, button sorting, a great distraction, and rather relaxing too, I find :) I like to sort them into colours, naturally, and then into sub categories depending on whether they have silver or gold embellishments!

  12. Those buttons feel like me this morning, all over the place.
My email people or whatever the term is have been taken over by sky and now I can't access my old emails or stop any more coming in. It's a nightmare as it's our business too.
    Ignore me I floundering xx
Ps hopefully I've managed to change it here

  14. I love buttons, I can remember as a very young child sitting outside cutting them off all the old clothes and putting them in the button tin Nothing was thrown away then....very nostalgicxx

  15. I know for a fact that those buttons are but a tip of the iceberg of your button jar! Hope we get to see some photos from your birthday? I know we'll have to wait till you've found (ok bought!) the right papers for the layouts, but do share.... Have a great week. xx

  16. Now you know I love a desk full of buttons .... And that fits the bill perfectly yum yum. But may I be cheeky and ask what is on the far left .... Looks like a bowl of popcorn.... Things look different from this angle ....have a good week

  17. Love a rummage through my buttons - and I have a fair few! Have now bought some stuff from SU to make some! As for Christmas cards - still not started! Anne x #25

    ReplyDelete
  18. Buttons! What is it about buttons! Can start a rummage through a tin of buttons and not come up for hours as I lose myself in memories of buttons from garments long gone. And yes, I also have hundreds of papers yet can still not have anything quite right when I come to use one ... bit like a wardrobe full of clothes and nothing to wear! Oh and your new dies just reminded me I had a delivery on Monday - must take a photo and add it to my blog!
Thanks for your lovely, lovely comments on my blog last week Julia - indeed each and every one of those "what if's" were banished and what a noodle I was to worry in the first place. Love to you from Debbie #26 xXx

  19. I must have tons of buttons but can never find them when I want them - stash sort out is still on the agenda but seems to be getting pushed further down the list. Where is your huge button jar? I love seeing it full to overflowing with all your lovely buttons.

  21. hullo Julia - great share the sunshine with you :D although ours is gone down now..
..well being late this week did not matter terribly much, it seems :D things get busy and today it is after 5 pm here..
So finally around to posting; a busy day with things not scheduled put in place like dentists to replace fallen out filling, etc..

To your desk.. yes, I share the same exercise.. leaving new stash in sight several weeks submerged then ruffianly use them at least in sight (or sort of) might mean we will remember we have them :D
love the button sorting idea must try that :D happy WOYWW, Shaz in Oz.x #27 I think

    ReplyDelete
  22. er what does that ruffianly use them mean.. auto spell check slipped that one in - meant to be finally !!!!! use them!! sigh how does that happen..

  23. Happy WOYWW Julia...a lot of buttons...were you sorting into colours or looking for some for a project. Mine are mostly just piled into a few containers...also have lots of those you get in the tiny ziplock bags attached to clothing - I'd have a lot more space if I discarded the bags. Have a cool week, enjoy that sunshine, RobynO#29

  24. Buttons bring back memories of my grandmother's sitting room with her old treadle Singer machine and being given her button tin to play with when we visited. I know all about putting things away in what is really the totally wrong place. I have a degree in that skill. I cannot get into my room until the weekend as I need to be downstairs to keep my builders well supplied with tea, but more sorting and tidying is on the schedule for Saturday and Sunday. Hope you are still progressing well with your recovery and not trying to do too much. xx Maggie #32

  30. So whilst I've been gawking at your desk, you've been and left a comment! The 12 oz. jar of science is iron filings : D. I'm in search of a proper magnet and still playing with Ideas lol. One hint I can tell you so far don't spill it and use a naked magnet to clean it up (wrap it in a coffee filter first).

And about the fun foam staining, it's not so much that it stains, but that the stains will transfer to the back of things stamped upon it.

I love listening to audio books while I sort, though I haven't made it all the way down to desk across the whole surface in quite a while lol. Love that cloud die. OMG it took me 30 minutes to re-arm my ATG because I started the sticky off the wrong side somehow lol.

Here's a link to the card completed. That was a record for me lol. http://ohhhsnapper.blogspot.com/2014/07/make-it-monday-174-diamond-wallpaper.html

  31. I just sorted buttons by color not too long ago. Suddenly they don't look so overwhelming now that they are separate and sitting in their own little jar along my crafting closet. Happy WOYWW!

  32. Ah I recognise the button-sorting-tidy-thing. Many an item stays unfound amongst the jars of buttons here, purely as I don't use many buttons at this point in time. I did. I had a spell you see, you know the one where you use said item on every project till it gets boring?! I've shared the photos of my in dress etc cos I know many don't do FB. After all me in a dress is a rare moment in time!! Take care lovely xxx

  33. Morning Julia, and sorry i managed to put the wrong page up.
Those dies do look exciting and just because you haven't used them, doesn't mean they won't be.
Glad I'm not the only one who listens to the lady herself whilst I am crafting, so funny.
Hope you get the mojo back soon

I KNOW... how can that be? I'm sure there must be a few in a box here somewhere but now I want to sort some whilst listening to an audio book with the sun streaming through the window.
    Enjoy xoxo

  41. Good morning, Julia! Looks like a nice sunny start to the day here -- hope yours is lovely, too. I was just digging around in my bowl of buttons yesterday. I was going to use some on a layout, but couldn't find three black ones, so went with bits from a Thickers sheet. (The asterisks, dots, etc. are fun to use as embellishments, I find!) 45. Hi Julia, love that lovely scattering of buttons ... I rate buttons next to ribbons as most desirable stash :) It's almost a given that passport photos must like mugshots! And I'm experiencing the same issues with my pretty patterned paper. Perhaps I should be choosing photos to match the paper rather than the other way round! Have fun with those new dies. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #53

  48. It's a great plan! When mojo takes a break--get out photos from Snapfish and plan layouts. Love it. And please tell me if I should indeed get an ATG gun. I have been going back and forth on this for weeks. I think Joanns has the cheapest price on them, and I can use a 50% off coupon. I love seeing all your buttons displayed--Imma button lover. Notice how cute where I posted--I'm right by two other Sandy's at the end of the list! Hugs dearest! Sandy Leigh

  51. Usually when the mojo is gone is the best time to do some sorting.

And I've been known to find mundane tasks to do JUST so I can keep listening to an audio book. Those don't work so well with work that requires thinking.

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and for the nice comments. :-)

I saw this really simple Christmas card with buttons strewn across a card with a star at either end and thought that was cute and a good way to use buttons. Thanks for hosting the WOYWW :) I've seen the rss feed about them in my mailbox, not only yours but a few other blogs I follow as well. 73. Sounds a good idea to do a bit of listening (audio book?) whilst crafting. Now to find my current read on audio and then I can have free hands and eyes for making something.
Love the button collection but a tip from me - don't use all your DS tape up in favour of your ATG gun - if it ever goes wrong you are stuck (no pun intended).
Thanks for almost linking me Julia - hated to ask but could think of no other way.
